Hot Today

Yes, it was pretty warm today here in
the southwest.  Living in the high desert
of Arizona you just pretty well expect that
during the summer time.
Which is why I so look forward to coming
home and grabbing a big class of sweet tea!
I hope you too found a relaxing way
to keep cool today.

Blessings to one and all!

Spoiled or Pretty?

We can see an image, a picture, an item or a person
and make the judgment that it is spoiled or
ugly or not nice.

That is the judgment I used when I saw how
this picture I took turned out.  My flash was
not working so that's the reason for the
blueish tint to the picture.  I thought well I can't use
this one til I noticed how it made the pink of
the miniature rose stand out.

I just give you this as something to think about.
How often do we see something/someone and think
SPOILED-BROKEN-UGLY-BAD.

Maybe we just need to look again and find the
pretty pink mini-rose!

Blessings to one and all!!

This Is The Day

This is the day that the Lord has made.
I will rejoice and be glad in it!!

So much beauty surrounds us.  It is there
and all we have to do is look.

 His hand is in everything!

He formed my newest grandson, Teague,
in the womb and brought him forth
to be the newest member of our family.

Taste and know that the Lord
Is Good!!

Blessing to one and all!

Lamp Shade Make Over

I was in need of a little side table lamp for the room I have been working on to use as my Victorian/Garden room.  On the weekends I usually have my cup of coffee first thing in the morning and use it as my quiet time to pray and read scripture to start off my day on a positive note.
I found tucked away in the top of a closet a small, pretty ceramic lamp with lots of attacked ceramic flowers.

To start with I just put one of my hats on top of it for the time being til I found a shade I liked.  I don't have much selection in the small town I live in so I thought maybe I could fix something I wanted myself.  Of course this is not the usual way I go as I'm not that crafty and would just a soon buy what I want.  I did find a simple shade at the local Walmart so thought I would start with that.

I tried it on the lamp and saw it was a bit short as it did not hide the metal part above the ceramic lamp.  So I'm thinking of using tassel to hang down long enough to serve the purpose.  I went to my Mom's (she is 92) to look through her large sewing supplies for something that would work.  I found in her supplies the lace trim that was used on my wedding gown from 1974.  The pretty green, floral lace above was used on my wedding dress and still looked great.  I'm thinking this will work to trim the top and bottom of the shade.

Okay, so I start with measuring and pinning the first lace to the lamp.  Being new at this I'm just kind of feeling my way through this.

So now I have the idea of what I want but I need the tassel part.  So again I go to Walmart and find something that I like.  While I'm there I find this double sided adhesive tape for craft projects.  I'm sorry I did not think to keep the name of it.  When I saw it I thought that would be a better way to attach the trim to the shade than to sew it on.

I now had my tassel trim and proceeded to pin it to the bottom  of the lace trim in preparation to sew the two together.  I had used the two sided adhesive tape and attached the top trim to the shade.

I then proceeded to hand sew the tassel trim to the lace trim.

Now I applied the two sided adhesive tape to the white and green lace trim and pressed it firmly to the lamp shade.

My finished project turned out quite well I think.

You can see the tassels hang down far enough
to cove the medal shaft above the
ceramic base of the lamp.

And I think it is very Victorian looking so fits with
the decor of the room.

It makes my little corner a very
delightful place to enjoy my coffee and tea.

And a good place to have my quiet time with the
Lord.

Now my Victorian/Garden room has another piece
added to it that helps to pull it all together.  It
gives me an enjoyable room that I have had
fun working on.
I hope you have enjoyed your visit to my quiet place
and seeing my first project of this kind with
my cute Victorian lamp shade.

Blessings to you one and all!!

Who Shall Separate Us..........

.........from the love of Christ?  Shall tribulation,or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ...I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities  nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of  God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Get wisdom! Get understanding!
Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.  Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you.  Love her, and she will keep you.

You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.
Trust in the Lord forever,
For in the Lord, is everlasting strength.

Blessing to you one and all!!!

A Thrifty Display

My newest project has been in what I call my Victorian/Garden room.  When my last daughter left home last year I had plenty of rooms to choose from.  I did not need two rooms with storage in them so cleaned this one out and started fixing the whole room up for my parlor!!  It's a great place for my morning cup of coffee and quiet time with the Lord to start my day.

I want to share with you today my wicker stand there in the corner that I have been having fun find little things to fill it.  It was sitting in my back family room so I drug it in here to fill this corner.  I had that picture already hanging on the wall of wicker furniture so thought it would be just right there.

All the items on the shelves are from thrift store finds and the doilies are out of my collection.  The wicker shelves I got five years ago from a friend who was getting rid of lots of her things.  It was free so that was a good find for sure.

The bottom shelf has pics of my four daughters who are the light of
my life!!  These little frames I've had for awhile and I don't remember
how much I paid for them.  Not much I'm sure.  The white pitcher in the
corner I just found the other day from a local second hand store.  It was $3.99
so it came home with me.  The little tea light picture and bowl was $1.98 from
the Goodwill store.  The pretty white heart with ribbon embroidery was  gift
from a good friend some years ago.  It's so dainty with the pretty ribbon made
into flowers and such.

The next shelf up has a pretty wicker type trinket box with nice lace and
floral detail to it.  The little bird I found in some of my Mom's sewing supplies
so they worked out well on these shelves.  The Victorian house is a wooden
box and the blue and white bowl in front of that has dried lavender in it.
It is the only piece of a very big set of early 1900 china of my great aunts that
was lost when my home burned in 2005.  I lost my home and everything
so nothing I have currently is older that six years ago.

The pretty little white china swan  with pink flowers and the cute picture
frame behind it where from the Goodwill store.  The swan was $2.00 and the frame $1.50.

On the second shelf from the top is one of my favorite things I have found recently and that is the lace, floral and bead shadow box frame.  It was only $2.99 and I was thrilled to find it.  It might go up on the wall later but for now it does well here.

The clear glass box the the left has some small sea shells in it and I thought the candle star fish went well there.  The middle pierced wood stand is for a vase but works well for the little hinged ceramic box.  Next to that is a pretty white ceramic basket with lovely flowers.  It's quite detailed.  None of these items were more than $2.00 a piece.

On the top shelf are two glass slippers that also made it through the fire so those I have had for awhile.  The lone tea cup sits on a little dish with a dried flower arrangement I received some time ago.  I'm also please with finding the lovely picture frame in the corner for only $2.99 as those are quite pricey to buy them new.  I will find a family pic some time soon to put in it.  The blue bottle was one of my daughters items she left behind so I put it to use.

So there is my most recent table top display that I have had fun acquiring lately.  As you can see I don't think I have spent more than $35.00 dollars or so for all of this.  With a little patience and enjoying the hunt you can find treasures from things someone else does not care for any longer.

I hope you have enjoyed all my pretty little treasures!
